I went today to the Safety week exhibition at Bitec. More or less by accident as it was next to the very boring Fast Car Show I actually wanted to attend. But the Safety fair was a better choice. It was quite a surprise to see how advanced safety standards can be. The tools and gear is there in Thailand, even the knowledge. Quite a few universities were looking for students to get a bachelor in Occupational and Health or safety majors. (The picture are Khon Kaen students, who were the only ones who dared to approach me in English of course).

Again, it seems to be lack of enforcement of laws that makes your average Somchai ignoring safety issues, because rules and laws are in place, and as I saw at the fair, hardware isn't an issue as well.

Another weekend, another gallery walk. This time we finally made it to the Chula Art Center and to the Hof Art Space. 

The Art Center is part of the Chulalongkorn University and is located in the 7th floor of the library building. It sounds bigger than it is - the exhibition was in just on large room, divided by a makeshift wall.

The current exhibition is called Synthesis and features 8 artists from Asia. Krisida Suvichakonpong is a photographer with an excellent piece called Cabinet of Curiosities. Kedsuda Loogthong used soil from her hometown to paint rice fields - a traditional theme, but well executed. Also noteworthy is Pattana Chuenmana, who documents the tragedy of the nights, in particular car crashes. Promthum Woravut's drawings depicts images of students on a multiple-choice exam answer sheet - a not so subtile critic of the current education system.

The exhibition is open Mon - Fri: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm and Satuday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Next stop was the Hof Art Space not far from Phrakanong BTS at W District. They are displaying sculptures from Silpakorn University at the first floor (So Far So Good 3) and a mix of artists on the ground floor. It is mentioned on the website that "due to the vast space, HOF Art was able to influence a new generation of artists to create, and presented many exhibitions throughout the past nine years." We were actually a bit disappointed about the quality in general. 

While we didn't expect much from the students (solid, but not really exciting with one exception), we thought of having better exhibits at the ground floor exhibits. Jirasak Plabootong is the exception here, his intense earth colored paintings are outstanding. This of course is just my opinion, and art is as much about personal taste as food is, so feel free to argue against my view any time. 

Northern style curry with crocodile meat

A few days ago I spotted crocodile meat at Tesco Lotus, and since it was just 70 baht, I thought I give it a try. So today I prepared a red curry country style, without coconut but with just nam prik and water, together with the meat, some bamboo shoots and eggplants.

When I was opening the defrosted bag and pull the meat out, I already was sure that doesn't look to good. You could clearly see that this wasn't properly cut from a croc, but was torn apart, randomly hacked. It was fatty and looked like the garbage on the floor after the butcher had left.

Anyway, I wanted to see how the remaining eatable parts will perform with spicy chili, and they did well. Crocodile meat itself has kind of a fish texture while the taste is somewhere between chicken and nothing. So it needs to be either marinated, charcoaled or with a lot of spices.

If anyone knows a place where to get a proper crocodile fillet please let me know.

Arrived today: My pebble time. So far I like it, the colors are good, readability even indoor is good. Unfortunately one of my favorite apps, Up for Pebble, doesn't work, so I have to use another app to count steps. Also a bit of a disappointment is the voice recording: it only works (so far) to reply to SMS and certain messages. But this works pretty well - requires internet connection of course.

The wristband is way better then the one for the original pebble, feels softer and smoother.On pictures the bezel looks bigger than it appears in reality, not disturbing at all. The timeline feature is nice, although I would like to see more apps feeding into it (ToDoist, for example).

I think Pebble will start developing more functionalities once the headache with shipping is over. In particular the smart straps are a big issue: although the Pebble Time has the connector, no straps are on the market yet (or in sight). Let's hope something will be done soon.
